PHONE SCAM ALERT!
03/19/2025
Dispatch has been notified of a phone scam that has been confirmed by the East Central Area Agency on Aging (785-242-7200).
Individuals claim to receive a call from a nice, polite, understandable lady that says she is doing a medical profile and begins to ask questions about their Medicare card and if it is up to date. This caller then proceeds to ask personal questions about the individuals medical history. The caller claims that they will send medical equipment to the individual and Medicare will pay for it.
The Area on Aging stated your insurance company will never call you to confirm you Medicare card information. Also, Medicare or your supplemental insurance will not offer you medical products over the phone. If you have given out your Medicare card info out to anybody by phone, then make a report with local Law Enforcement and also contact your Medicare/ insurance company so they can flag your account and watch for suspicious charges.
If people have a questionable call, the Area Agency of Aging can help people determine if a call is legitimate. The Ottawa office can be reached by phone at 785-242-7200.
Do not give out your personal information by phone, including your Medicare card information.
