At 19:53 on July 8, 2024 Coffey County Sheriff's officers initiated a routine traffic stop of a black SUV near southbound 75 Highway at 22nd Road.  After initiating the traffic stop, the driver of the SUV attempted to elude officers. Officers pursued the suspect of the black SUV on 75 Highway from 22nd Road south to Saint Lawrence Street in Burlington where the pursuit concluded.  The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Ryan Spalding, is being held in Coffey County Jail on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude a LEO, unknown felony; aggravated assault of an LEO, use of a deadly weapon; aggravated battery on LEO, physical contact to state/county/ city officer on duty.  All suspects are considered innocent unless convicted in a court of law.
